THE COMPUTATIONAL HYDRODYNAMICS AND INFORMATICS LABORATORY

THE CHIL @ OSU

WELCOME to The Computational Hydrodynamics & Informatics Lab (The CHIL). Our research in The CHIL focuses on the development, implementation, analysis, and application of computational models for fluid flow and transport processes (computational fluid dynamics or CFD). One of the main goals of this research is the development and application of next-generation, high-performance computing tools which utilize state-of-the-art methods and algorithms, that can be used, for example, to guide improvements in coastal management practices and hazard mitigation strategies. The research is highly interdisciplinary in nature, involving aspects of not only engineering but also applied mathematics, physical oceanography and computer science.

Over the years, our work has been generously supported by state and federal agencies such as Ohio Sea GrantThe Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR)The US Army Corps of EngineersThe US Geological Survey (USGS)The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and The National Science Foundation (NSF); as well as by industry partners including Aquaveo and American Municipal Power, Inc.
